Spirometry is a common and effective pneumological diagnostic test. It is carried out by a pulmonologist, but may also be performed at your GP’s surgery. Just like in a hospital or clinic.
Spirometry is the most reliable way of testing your lungs for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma.

Spirometry can be used to perform a number of tests, but the most basic is the forced vital capacity (FVC) test. The patient should take a deep breath. Then blow as hard and as long as possible into the spirometer sensor. The device measures how much air the patient can expel from his lungs and at what speed.
The doctor interprets the results, taking into account the patient’s age, ethnicity, physical criteria and smoking habits. In order to compare the results with reference data and determine the state of the patient’s lung capacity. This enables us to diagnose chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma or respiratory insufficiency.
