Can a defibrillator be used without training?
Yes, of course!
Automatic external defibrillators are intelligent devices. Easy to use, the general public can use a defibrillator without training. No need to be a paramedic, doctor or have undergone any training. The device dictates by voice all the steps to be followed by the rescuer.
The law allows anyone to use a defibrillator without training to help a heart attack victim. That’s why AEDs have become so popular. And that they are made available in places open to the public or in companies.
Training is an asset
However, training is always a big plus if you want to be able to act quickly in such situations. Because every minute counts. Stress often mounts and the people around the victim don’t know how to react. Or are reluctant to take the initiative to use a defibrillator. For fear of making a mistake.
